Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her eighth consecutive union budget. Schemes for the MSME sector, women, farmers, the education sector, boosting exports, etc. have been announced. Building blocks of life discovered in samples from asteroid Bennu

Rock and dust samples analysed by NASA from the asteroid Bennu found some of the chemical building blocks of life. The research reveals that the samples contained minerals formed when brine, salty water, evaporated on Bennu’s parent body, the type of environment which, fostered the emergence of living organisms. The US space agency’s robotic OSIRIS-REx spacecraft in 2020 collected the samples from the near Earth asteroid. The samples were delivered to Earth in 2023 by parachute inside a capsule released by OSIRIS-REx.

Niger, The First African Country To Eliminate Infectious Parasitic Disease Onchocerciasis.

Niger is the first African country and fifth in the world to eliminate onchocerciasis aka known as ‘river blindness’. It is a parasitic disease caused by a ‘filarial’ worm ‘Onchocerca volvulus’, causing blindness and suffering. It is transmitted by the bites of blackflies that breed along ‘fast-flowing rivers and streams’. After trachoma, onchocerciasis is the second leading infectious cause of blindness globally. Niger joins the list of four other nations that are eliminated onchocerciasis: Guatemala (2016), Mexico (2015), Ecuador (2014), and Colombia (2013).

RBI infuse 5.1 billion dollar liquidity via forex swap

The Reserve Bank of India’s $5 billion 6-month dollar/rupee swap auction was issued. The swap will infuse rupee liquidity into the banking system and is part of a measures to inject a total 1.5 trillion rupees of liquidity into the banking system. The auction attracted bids amounting to $25.6 billion, indicating strong demand. Liquidity in the Indian banking system has been in deficit mode since mid-December. RBI governor Sanjay Malhotra emphasised the need to maintain financial stability, expand financial inclusion, improve digital literacy, and enhance access to affordable credit.

Andhra Pradesh launched What’s App Governance.

Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh launched a new initiative, ‘Mana Mitra,’ aimed at delivering government services to citizens via Whats App. Government has allotted an official WhatsApp number for this. 36 departments will have to be connected to WhatsApp Governance. Each certificate will be provided with QR code, by scanning QR code link will redirect to state government website.

UN Declared 2025 as The International year of Glaciers preservation.

The United Nations has declared 2025 as the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the vital role glaciers play in our ecosystem and the urgent need for climate action. Glaciers are large masses of ice store 70% of the world’s freshwater. Glaciers are the important indicator of the global environment.
