Uttarakhand implemented Uniform civil code throughout the state.

The Uttarakhand government rolled out the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The rules manual for the UCC and a portal were inaugurated by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The Cabinet had approved the rules manual on January 20. On January 13, the Uttarakhand government began training its officials to help familiarise them with the UCC portal. Online portals have been developed for citizens and officials, featuring Aadhaar-based verification, AI-based translation services in 22 Indian languages, and data integration across more than 13 departments/services.

Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri awardees in 2025

The Padma Awards are conferred on the recommendations of the Awards Committee, appointed by the prime minister, and announced annually on the eve of Republic Day, by the President of India.

The Padma awards are awarded in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher order), and Padma Shri (distinguished service). For the year 2025, the list includes 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri Awards.

Indore and Udaipur become the Indian first two cities to join Global wetland list.

UNESCO has added Udaipur and Indore to its of wetland cities of the world, this is the first time any Indian city get recognition. An independent Advisory Committee on Wetland City Accreditation of the Convention in its latest round accredited 31 new cities, including two from India, making the global list of such cities to reach 74. India has a total of 1307 wetland, including 85 Ramsar sites.

India targetting 10000 GI Tags by 2030: Ministry of Commerce

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal set a target to register 10,000 GI (geographical indication) products by 2030 from the current 605. GI Tag is an agricultural, natural or a manufactured product (handicrafts or industrial goods) originating from a definite geographical territory. Once a product gets tag, any person or company cannot sell a similar item under that name. This tag is valid for a period of 10 years following which it can be renewed.

Smriti Mandhana has crowned ICC ODI Womens cricketer of the year for 2024. While, Amelia Kerr has crowned ICC Womens cricketer of the year for 2024. Wome’s T20I Cricketer of the Year Melie Kerr, Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year Annerie Dercksen, Women’s Associate Cricketer of the Year Esha Oza.

Jasprit Bumrah has crowned ICC Mens cricketer and ICC Mens Test cricketer of the year for 2024 & Grafield sobers award. Azmatullah Omarzai became ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year. Arshdeep Singh became ICC T20I Cricketer of the Year. Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year Kamindu Mendis. Associate Men’s Cricketer of the Year Gerhard Erasmus. BIMSTEC Expert group meeting on Cyber security cooperation held in New Delhi.

National Security Council Secretariat organized the Second BIMSTEC Expert Group Meeting on Cyber Security Cooperation in New Delhi. The main aim of the meeting was to formulate an Action Plan to bolster coordination and collaboration amongst the BIMSTEC member countries for strengthening Cyber Security in the use of information and communication technology (ICT). First Meeting hosted by India in 2022, also held in New Delhi. The  National Security Council Secretariat was set up by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 1998

Kimi k1.5 AI model has launched by chainese starup, rivals open AI.

Kimi k1.5 is the latest model released by Beijing-based AI startup Moonshot AI. The era of Chinese AI models has officially begun with DeepSeek, and now presents Kimi k1.5 which outshining OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet on some benchmarks. Kimi has outperformed o1 (Open AI model) in areas like mathematics, coding, and the ability to understand text and visual inputs like photos and videos. Kimi k1.5 is not just an AI model; it is being touted as a big leap in reinforcement learning (RL) and multimodal reasoning, which makes it different from other AI platform.

UK’s University of surrey going to open international campus in Gujarat Gift City.

The University of Surrey is planning to open an International Campus in GIFT City, Gujarat. New India campus will be a partnership of the University of Surrey’s teaching and research in business, international finance, computer science, cyber-security. Ancillary services, student enrolment, campus establishment and operations management, will be provided by GGS. The project will help ties between the two countries and is closely aligned with Government of India priorities to expand education and become a global knowledge superpower.

Govt. of India sets up committee to Chief Election Commissioner candidate shorlist.

The committee has been setting up by the Law ministry, comprising Prime minister, a cabinet minister and leader of the opposition in the Loksabha. The search committee would shortlist names to be considered for the post of Chief Election Commissioner. As of now current Chief Election Commissioner is Rajiv kumar, he will complete his tenure on 18th February.

Justice S Radhakrishnan, one of prison reformer, passed away.

Justice S Radhakrishnan, former judge of Bombay high court has passed away at the age of 78. He headed a panel after his retirement to recommend the path to reduce overcrowding in the Indian jail and improve health conditions of inmates. Justice S Radhakrishnan born on 25 December 1946.
