DRDO Successfully conduct test of Nag Mark 2 Missile.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted field evaluation test of India’s indigenous Anti-Tank Missile – Nag Mark 2 at the Pokhran Range in Rajasthan. Nag Mark-2 is the third-generation Anti-Tank Fire-and-Forget Guided Missile. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Indian Army and industry on this occasion. During the three field trials, the missile systems destroyed precisely all the targets – maximum and minimum range. Nag Mark 2 missile uses advanced fire-and-forget technology, which allows operators to lock onto targets before launch and strike with pinpoint accuracy.

Government of India reconstituted the Atomic Energy Commission.

The government of India has re-constituted the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). T V Somanathan and Manoj Govil are among the new members. The reconstituted commission includes National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, is the Chairman. The AEC main role is in formulating policies for the Department of Atomic Energy. AEC is the governing body of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). The Indian Atomic Energy Commission was set up on 3 August 1948. Government of India later replaced the commission by “Atomic Energy Commission of India” on 1 March 1954 with Homi J Bhabha as the secretary.

World first Compressed air energy storage plant commissioned in China.

The Nengchu-1 project in Yingcheng, Hubei Province, has commissioned a 300 MW compressed air energy storage in China. This facility is the world’s first 300 megawatt compressed air energy storage demonstration project. Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) is a technology that stores excess energy by compressing air in underground caverns. During periods of high energy demand, the stored air is released to generate electricity. Nengchu-1 boasts a single-unit power capacity of 300 megawatts and an energy storage capacity of 1,500 megawatt-hours.

New Carnivorous Plant discovered in Rajasthan.

Recently a rare carnivorous plant, Utricularia, commonly known as bladderworts, Large presence has observed in Keoladeo National park in Rajasthan. Utricularia uses bladder-like traps to capture small organisms. These traps can be ensnare protozoa, insects, larvae, mosquitoes, and tadpoles. Once an organism enters into the bladder, it becomes trapped and dies. The growth of Utricularia in Keoladeo National Park is attributed to the abundant water supply from the Panchana Dam. Keoladeo Ghana National Park is renowned for its rich biodiversity.

Zoological Survey of India has identified a new species of Pangolin.

The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) has recently identified a new species of Pangolin, named Manis indoburmanica. This species diverged from the Chinese pangolin approximately 3.4 million years ago.
