Mount Ibu erupts in Indonesia.
Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted, spewing hot lava and releasing a column of smoke and ash four kilometers. Mt. Ibu is situated on Halmahera Island at Indonesia. Mount Ibu is classified as one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes. Mt. Ibu erupted multiple times earlier this month. The volcano had an eventful 2023, erupting over 2,000 times, highlighting its unpredictable nature. This volcano is situated with 127 more active volcanos in the pacific ring of fire. In recent weeks, North Sulawesi’s Ruang volcano has also erupted.
DRDO Unveiled new cold weather clothing system “HIMKAVACH”.
The HIMKAVACH multi-layer clothing system, developed by DRD, has successfully passed user trials, demonstrating its effectiveness in extreme cold weather conditions. The temperature range of HIMKAVACH is +20°C to -60°C. It aims to protect military personnel in harsh cold weather environments. It provides essential protection against hypothermia and frostbite. These innovations aim to improve the overall effectiveness of military personnel in various operational environments.
Kumbhvani FM channel launched by UP CM Yogi Ji.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a dedicated FM channel called Kumbhvani (103.5 MHz). Kumbhvani is an FM channel specifically created for the Maha Kumbh festival. The channel aims to reach remote villages where access to Kumbh is limited. The channel will feature live broadcasts of key bathing rituals on 14 and 29 January and 3 February.
Olympic gold medalist announced as amabassador for Mumbai Marathon.
Olympic Gold winner and world champion Mo Farah has been announced as the international event ambassador for the Tata Mumbai Marathon. Which will be held n 19 th January 2025 with record 60000 plus perticipants across globe. The start line for the World Athletics Gold Label race will be the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and the presence of Mo Farah. Somalian-born British runner Mo won four Olympic and six World Championship gold medals and is the first man to retain both the 5,000m and 10,000m titles at both the Olympics (2012 & 2016) and World Championships (2013 & 2015)
Legendary singer P. Jayachandran passes away.
Playback singer P. Jayachandran, known for his expressive singing and whose magical voice captivated music lovers for over six decades, passed away at the age of 81. Having sung over 16,000 songs that have touched generations, Jayachandran’s voice transcended boundaries, resonating in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi.
Indian Economy to grow 6.6% in 2025: UN
The UN World Economic Situation and Prospects, report has stated India’s economy is projected to grow at 6.6 per cent in 2025, Keeping its 2025 growth forecast unchanged from its mid-2024 estimates. National Statistics Office forecast the Indian economy to slow to a four-year low of 6.4 per cent in 2024-25. Where, an estimated expansion of 6.9 per cent in 2024, largely driven by private consumption and investment. South Asia’s economic outlook remains robust, with regional GDP anticipated to grow at 5.7 per cent in 2025, compared to 5.9 per cent in 2024.
India to invest 50000 crore for waterways infrastructure development.
Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), announced an investment plan of over Rs 50,000 crores over the next five years. The meeting was chaired by minister Sarbananda Sonowal, organised by the Inland Waterways Authority of India. The Union Minister also announced the launch of the National River Traffic & Navigation System (NRT&NS). This development will not only enhance transportation but also position Assam as a major tourist destination.
BMCRI to eshtablish South India’s first Infectious Disease Research and Diagnostic Lab.
Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) has been nominated by the ICMR to set up South India’s first Infectious Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory. The laboratory will allow infectious disease research to be conducted within Bengaluru. The facility will focus on diseases caused by bacteria, fungi, and parasites, enabling quicker diagnostics. IRDL project is part of a larger initiative by the Union Government to establish specialised laboratories in medical colleges nationwide.
