Million Year old water ice bubble discovered in Antarctica.

A team from Europian nations led by Italian Institute of Polar Sciences, has extracted a 2.8km-long cyclinder of ice, which is probably the world’s oldest ice, dating back 1.2m years ago, has been dug out from deep within Antarctica. Suspended inside the ice are ancient air bubbles which can be helped to solve an enduring mystery about our planet’s climate history. The trap air and particles that reveal levels of greenhouse gas emissions and temperature variation that could help scientists to know, how climatic conditions have altered over time.

The Toda tribe celebrates annual festival Modhweth.

The Toda tribe, an ancient Dravidian ethnic group, resides in the Nilgiris Hills of Tamil Nadu, celebrated their festival, Modhweth, marking the New Year. occurs annually, either on the the first Sunday of January. The celebration commenced with prayers at the Moonpo temple, dedicated to their deity Thenkish Amman. Toda tribe showcased their cultural heritage through traditional dance, performed outside the temple. Interesting fact is women do not participate in the celebrations.

V Narayanan Appointed New ISRO Chairman, succeeding S Somanath.

The Government of India announced the appointment of V Narayanan as the new Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation and Secretary of the Department of Space. V Narayanan hails from Melakattu village in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu. Narayanan has played significant roles in various ISRO’s space missions, including Chandrayaan-2 and GSLV Mk III. Mr. Narayanan will succeeding S. Somanath. Narayanan joined ISRO in 1984 and has held various roles as Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) and leading projects for the ASLV, PSLV, GSLV MKIII. He was honoured with the Gold Medal from the Astronautical Society of India and the Outstanding Achievement Award from ISRO and he was Distinguished Alumni Award from IIT Kharagpur.
